DAY 84
NEW ENGLAND & THE CANADIAN MARITIMES
Day 84 • We left the solitude of our wild anchorage for the happening city of Halifax. As we were entering the busy channel, with traffic all around and a container ship quickly approaching from behind, we noticed another vessel aimed right for our stern. Next thing we knew, we were being boarded by two fully accessorized policemen. In the shuffle of everyone answering questions and offering up passports, the first mate realized that we were drifting dangerously close to a channel marker and that container ship was coming in hot. She put the boat in gear and took off, leaving a third policeman and their stealth RIB behind. Luckily, the officers on board didn’t seem to mind. However, we would need to understand French to know for sure. Once clear, we let them off the boat, and we all waved goodbye. They were super friendly, and overall it was a good, yet hectic, first time being boarded by officials.
We anchored and immediately went downtown for a seafood dinner to celebrate our arrival, followed by a walk along the harbor and ice cream for dessert. We have now checked lobster rolls and Canadian ice cream off the must-try list.
