HEADING NORTH UP THE EAST COAST

MAY 24, 2026 - IN PROGRESS…

After a ten-month refit, Origami is finally on her first voyage! Before this, she spent nearly 40 years sailing on an inland lake. We’re on to bigger, saltier waters now. The crew is beyond excited to be on the move again! We’re looking forward to exploring our way up the New England coast and then discovering all the Canadian provinces we can squeeze into a single season. We had the best summer of our lives up in Canada (2024), cruising the Georgian Bay. Hopefully, this trip is just as memorable.

We’ll be updating this voyage page as we go. For day-to-day updates, be sure to check out our Instagram.

ROUTE TRAVELED SO FAR

NORTH CAROLINA

MAY 2430, 2026
After calling New Bern, North Carolina, home for nearly a year, we decided it was best to wrap up our refit and start heading north. Eager to get going, we quickly made our way out of the state, only stepping on land once in Belhaven. These first six days were spent acclimating to boat life, growing our sea legs, and fine-tuning our fuel system. While we may have had one of our worst days yet on the Alligator River, overall, we enjoyed a peaceful cruise through the state.

VIRGINIA

MAY 30–JUNE 11, 2026
We spent an extended time in Portsmouth/Norfolk, Virginia. There were boat projects to complete and packages to wait on. During our stay, we celebrated the Captain’s birthday as well as our 12th wedding anniversary! Once the boat was ready to go we had to wait for a weather window to jump outside for what would be our longest passage to date. The days were getting incredibly hot and we were feeling desperate to get north. We made the most of our time by riding bikes, taking the ferry, and meeting up with friends at a baseball game.

NEW JERSEY

JUNE 13–26, 2026
After a grueling 38-hour passage from Portsmouth/Norfolk, Virginia, we found ourselves anchored outside of Atlantic City, New Jersey. We had work projects to attend to and needed to stay for the week. We spent the first few days fighting the elements. Thunderstorms, a ripping current, and the tidal changes were not our friends. We ended up wrapping the anchor rode around the keel three times before we could change anchorages. Our next jump up the coast was also very unenjoyable. We then spent some time in Atlantic Highlands, wrapped up our big projects, and planned our next moves. It is all new to us from this point on!

NEW YORK

JUNE 26–27, 2026
While we may have spent less than 24 hours in the state, cruising our home through New York City was an amazing experience! We wish we could have stayed and explored, but the short season forces us to keep moving north.

CONNECTICUT

JUNE 27–29, 2026
We came to Connecticut, specifically New Haven, for the apizza. Upon arrival, we embarked on a “pizza crawl,” only making it to two restaurants before our tummies were too full. We had a deliciously good time! After loads of laundry, provisioning, and topping off the water tank, we were on our way to the next state.

RHODE ISLAND

JUNE 29 - JULY 3, 2026
We really enjoyed our brief stay in this tiny state. The Cliff Walk in Newport has been awarded the top highlight of the trip so far! The views were great, the exercise much needed, and the sweet scent of flowers filled the air. The changing landscape has us very excited for what’s to come.
