Origami the sailboat tied up to the dock

1986 S2 11A

Before we left for the Bahamas in the spring of 2025 on our O’Day 25, we started casually shopping around for a bigger boat. We had a pretty good idea of what we wanted for our new home. We compiled a list of sailboat makes and models we felt fit our needs. The S2 11A was at the top of our list.

We found Origami online and fell in love instantly. She was a gorgeous freshwater boat, in great condition. However, she was landlocked and overpriced. We moved on and crossed over to the Bahamas. We thought maybe if we were lucky, she would still be available when we returned. Towards the end of our three months in the Bahamas, we checked on the listing. Not only was she available, but the price had dropped considerably. After researching transportation costs, we were ready to make an offer.

We purchased the new boat on the Captain’s birthday and left for the States shortly after. We crossed back over in our little Novella, knowing we had a lot of work ahead of us, but also amazed that we got exactly what we had wished for.

What we love about the S2 11A:

  • Encapsulated ballast keel

  • U-shaped dinette to double as office space

  • Large windows to let in lots of natural light

  • Modern layout with plenty of headroom

ORIGAMI IS OUR SECOND SAILBOAT

After cruising full-time for nearly two years on an O’Day 25, we were ready for an upgrade. Life on our first sailboat, Novella, was incredibly fulfilling and taught us so much! We are enjoying even more adventures (with enhanced creature comforts) now that we have set sail on Origami.

REFIT

Origami was treated to a ten-month refit! Our initial focus was on bottom work. We moved on board as soon as she hit the water. We then worked hard to check off all of the needed upgrades to get this sailboat ready to cruise!

Main Projects:

  • Bottom work - thru-hulls, seacocks, paint

  • New rigging and mast wiring

  • Install navigation and electronics

  • Solar panels and lithium batteries

  • New arch with dinghy davits
