DAY 7

NEW ENGLAND & THE CANADIAN MARITIMES

Day 7 • Busy, busy! We made it to the city! Swing bridges, lift bridges, and our first lock (on this boat). Inside the cabin, the overwhelming piles of project supplies (that were thrown in just before we shoved off) were sorted and stashed away. We can now walk and sit freely.

Along the way, we dropped anchor briefly to check on our fuel situation. We are dealing with some dirty diesel issues along with air entering the fuel lines. We listen for the engine to begin to bog down, and then we either change a filter or bleed the lines. The last thing we want is the engine dying on us.

Well, that is exactly what she did, under a bridge, in the commercial port of Norfolk! Evan, knowing what to listen for, knew it was coming and quickly spun the boat around. Meriah took over the helm, essentially sailing bare poles downwind as Evan serviced the engine below. It wasn’t long, and we were back in business. Once to the port, we had to hunt for a place to anchor. As soon as the hook set, we assembled Camp Cozy and chilled.
