DAY 23
NEW ENGLAND & THE CANADIAN MARITIMES
Day 23 • What a difference changing anchorages can do for morale! We have been miserable in this inlet. We woke up to the anchor rode wrapping around the keel again. This time, with the light of day, we were able to lower the dinghy, attach to the mothership, and manually spin out of the tangle. We swore to leave as soon as we could.
The other option is an anchorage right next door, separated by an itty-bitty, narrow, unofficial channel we can only traverse at high tide. We took the dinghy over with our handheld sonar depth sounder and mapped a path for later.
Once the tide rose, we went to leave, and just before we could pull anchor, we wrapped one last time… We corrected the situation and headed to the fuel dock for our first fill-up. Navigating the anchorage channel was challenging due to the strong currents and a giant tow parked right next to the entrance. Once anchored, everyone let out a collective sigh of relief. We then did another first: we sat on the bow and watched the sun set. In peace.
